Factory Outlet Stores
|
For years factory outlet stores in Italy existed so that employees could buy the goods they produced at a discount. To shop there you either had to know the company's owner or be the friend of a friend of a friend. Pratesi was probably one of the best-known outlet thanks to a mention in an early edition of Suzy Gershman's "Born to Shop - Italy" book. Then Italy passed laws making it legal for "outsiders" to shop in these stores.
Today Italy boasts scores of outlet shops as well as discount malls. The first opened in Serravalle Scrivia, just off the super-highway between Milan and Genoa. The owner, Baa Macarthur Glen opened another discount mall south of Rome in September of 2003 followed by Fashion District, also located south of Rome.
Compiling this list of outlet malls and individual factory outlet stores was essentially a labor of love and available on the web since Bentley's Shopping Guide was inaugurated. The guide includes over 100 individual outlet stores including Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Tod's, Richard Ginori, and Bulgari. However, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep it current so if you wish to consult it we ask for a contribution of $ 5.00 or 5 Euro. While we arrange to accept credit cards there are two ways to pay:
1. A personal check in dollars made out to Logan Bentley and mailed to:

2. A personal check in Euro made out to Logan Bentley or an International Money order in Euro in the name of Logan Bentley mailed to:
