Pit Stops
|
Here are a few places where tired sightseers and shoppers can take a break for a drink, snack, tea, or even eat a light lunch:
- HOTEL FOUR SEASONS
- Via Gesu` 8, has a neoclassic facade that blends with the other buildings on the street and you'd never guess that Milan's most luxurious hotel lies smack in the middle of the city's most luxurious shopping district. Chic Milanese, especially fashion people, love to stop in for afternoon tea with the trimmings, especially during the winter months when a fire burns in the massive antique fireplace, served in La Veranda. The Il Foyer bar is also very popular.
- HOTEL PRINCIPE DI SAVOIA
- Piazza della Repubblica, is my very favorite hotel in Milan (shameless plug) and the large bar with comfy upholstered chairs is a terrific place for a pit-stop and a quick bite to eat in tranquil surroundings. Right next to the La Repubblica metro stop.
- IL BARETTO
- Via Sant'Andrea 3, is an ideal place for a drink, snack or even a light lunch. It's small and crowded at lunch, with a few tables and a bar with high stools at one end where Ermanno, the owner, welcomes old and new customers and runs a tight ship. Better to reserve for lunch if you don't want to wait: Tel: 781255.
- IL CIGNO NERO
- Via della Spiga 33, close to Via Manzoni, has a few tiny tables at the back and upstairs, with a beautiful long inlaid wood bar downstairs and a variety of snacks and sandwiches as well as pastries served with flair by the owner.
- PAPER MOON
- Via Bagutta 1 (near Via della Spiga), is officially a pizzeria but has tables upstairs and down and is a favorite with the fashion folk whose offices are nearby. Try the Robespierre, very thin slices of rare roast beef garnished with rosemary, or any one of the excellnt pizzas. The same management runs Paper Moon Fish, (specializing in fish), just across the street, in case Paper Moon is full.
- CAFE ST. AMBREUS
- Corso Matteotti 11 is another favorite watering place with the Milanese, good for a drink, snack, or both.
